Isaiah 10:27
Psalms 23:5

Every step we take takes us one step closer to a place. One thing is certain about this place – we can’t deny our steps taking us there after we’ve arrived. There’s an old saying that goes – you made your bed, now lie in it. But it takes one hella mature mind to understand and own this process of life.

We choose our ups and downs way before we experience them.

This goes for curses as much as it does for blessings. So how do we minimize the curses to broaden the blessings? Well, you can’t get to where you want to be if your obstacle is larger than your faith, so you have to believe stronger than your burdens. To accomplish this, it takes 5 elements:

Thoughts. Keep your mind pure with excellence. Your belief has to be strong for your body’s sake. Whatever you think you can or can’t do – you’re right. Whatever your mind can conceive, believe you can achieve it. You just have to stay focused on what you want most, and never stop thinking about attaining it until you have acquired it.

Actions. Faith without works is dead. You have to go after whatever you want. You can pray all you want; you can want all you want; but if you don’t get up and do something about it, you’ll never get it. When people say they are afraid to give their all, why would they ever think they would actually get it? You can’t handicap your future by being lazy then cry about not receiving it. If you want that promotion, you have to do the work. If you want that man, you have to do what he needs to make him happy. If you want that new car, you have to have the means to pay for it. If you don’t go whole-heartedly after what you want, you can never say you wanted it. If it’s not that serious to work for it, just remember that when you don’t get it.

Words. Your sword is your tongue. Never underestimate the power of your words because whether you believe it or not, you live off the language you speak. Sticks and stones can break your bones, but words can make you irreparable. Watch the things you put out into the universe. There’s no way to make yourself better when you’re steady talking down about your situation. Don’t consistently say you have no money then wonder why you never have any money. Don’t consistently ask if she wants to break-up with you then wonder why she breaks-up with you. Don’t consistently say you can’t learn something then wonder why you failed at it. Failure should never be an option when evaluating your options in life. And if you’re going to quit, why start?

Confidence. Never doubt yourself. Make your worst critic your best fan. Know, within yourself, no matter what – win lose or draw, you will always be there for yourself. As long as you keep that in mind, and never let yourself down, you will always persevere. Never compare yourself to anyone but yourself the day before. As long as you’re better than that person, you should be fine. Your idol should be yourself tomorrow. Don’t dream about Beyonce, or George Clooney, or your rich uncle, or your successful friend married with kids. Dream about being a better you. That person is more amazing than anyone else you could imagine.

Doubters. If they don’t lift you up, they will eventually let you down. Don’t keep these people around you. Remove them as quick as possible, because these are going to be the people who hurt you the worst when you’re most vulnerable. Keep a choosey circle around you. Hatred spreads like a disease. Remember God blesses in the midst of our enemies. Do not allow them get to you, just let your light shine above them.

Take every step in life one at a time, with purpose and direction. Even if it’s a step backwards, it’s okay to reset. For a truck stuck in mud, sometimes the best thing to do is to put it in reverse, turn the wheel, and push forward again. And most of all, vibrate on a different level. Do what you have to do to set yourself apart from foolishness, make yourself happy, and fulfill your purpose in life. Be driven. Be meticulous. Be your own fairytale.

“I guess he was right, these are the breaks. Despite my mistakes and aches, I’m getting cake. To realize your fate through faith, cause we all gonna get that day… to see if our lives was straight, & see if we would be able to walk through the pearly gates.” (c) Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr. – “Ups & Downs”
