CampGround Convo “The Head”

1 Thessalonians 2:11-12
Ephesians 5:25

Being a boy is no easy feat, but everything you learn as one, grooms you to becoming the best man you could ever be. Holding the title and rights of being head of your household is the greatest achievement any man can acquire. With that achievement comes favor, mercy, and as much respect as responsibility. To become this great man, there are three things he has to always keep in mind:

One. Pray for your family. Yes, you should pray with your family – to remain united and strong, together, as a family. But you should also pray for your family. When your kids go to sleep at night, go pray over them. When your wife receives that promotion, pray for her humility and for her work ethic to continue to be recognized. When you don’t get your promotion, pray for your family’s strength to stay faithful until you do. Keep the spirit flowing through your household so nothing or no one has the opportunity to intervene in it. A man of God over a household is one strong, guided, and kept household.

Two. Make your wife a priority. If your mom needs a pair of shoes, and your wife needs a pair of shoes – who do you get the pair of shoes for? If you answered your mother, you answered wrong. If you answered both, you’ve found life’s cheat code. If you answered your wife, you’re a good husband and son. I’m a firm believer that there’s enough time in each day to accomplish everything you want to make out of your day.

If you want to focus on your career, you can’t say you need time for things to settle down before you can commit to being the husband your wife needs you to be. No, what you’re saying is, your career is more important than your wife. Like the great Hitch said – when you’re in the room, be in the room. There will always be another deadline for work. There will always be another bar to hang at with your friends. There will always be another game on tv. Make your moments with your wife count.

Three. Give your kids your time and your word. When a kid has hope, the worst thing you can do is leave it empty. Your time and your word don’t cost you anything but effort. Make an impression on your children’s lives so they know what life is supposed to be like.

Be an honest friend to your son so he learns how to choose his friends wisely. Hug your daughter so she understands how love feels. Explain to your son why you do the things you do to treat his mother like a queen. Show your daughter what it means to be a princess, and explain to her how she should treat her prince. So many women these days feel they deserve the world and have no idea why, what it takes, nor how to give the world to their man; that’s her father’s fault. Teach your son how to choose the perfect princess for him, and not allow anyone or anything come between them two except God. Never forget, every single thing a kid knows, they learned from somewhere – it’s your job to make sure they receive the right lessons.

As a man, surround yourself with other positive men. Your circle matters. If you hang with 3 athletes, you’ll probably be the 4th athlete. If you hang with 3 lawyers, you’ll probably be the 4th lawyer. If you hang with 3 knuckleheads, you’ll probably be the 4th knucklehead. And if you hang with 3 awesome heads of their households, you will probably be the 4th awesome head of his household. Be the example for better living. Be the example for positive men. Be the example for every great thing you want your family to be.

“I pledge to you, I will always do, Everything I can. Show you how to be a man. Dignity, integrity, honor and, I don’t mind if you lose, long as you came with it.
And you can cry, ain’t no shame in it.” © Will Smith – “Just The Two Of Us”
