Courtney Holmes is a barber at Sparks Family Hair Salon, and to help his Dubuque, IA community prep for this year’s school year, he is giving local children free haircuts in exchange for reading to him. Not only is he allowing families to save money for school supplies, but he is also helping his clients learn. Tayshawn Kirby reads Carol Parenzan Smalley’s Fats, Oils and Sweets while sitting in the chair – they both learned the average person eats 150 lbs of sugar within a year. Anyone can make a difference – all it takes is a bit of compassion mixed with an inspiring idea. Thank You. So Scout Life.
